Randy, who says she is a close friend and neighbor of the DeLucia family, said she was preparing food to bring to their house Sunday afternoon.
She says the family had an appointment with a real estate agent to sell the home.
“I was supposed to go in there. I didn't. I was the one bringing in food," said Randy.
Inside the Wyoming Court home, police say 59-year-old Joseph DeLucia Jr. shot and killed his brother, two sisters and niece, then turned the gun on himself on the front lawn.
“Forty-one years, that's probably one of the most horrific scenes I’ve ever seen," said Nassau County Police Commissioner Patrick Ryder.
Neighbors said DeLucia lived in the home his entire life with his mother. She died last week. They also said he struggled with his mental health.
“I know them. He was never a threat to me, never a threat to the siblings," said Randy.
Randy said one of DeLucia’s sisters was her best friend and died on her birthday.
“The family was very dear, all of them, beautiful. They’re in heaven right now, ya know, it was just a tragedy," said Randy.
According to detectives, DeLucia used a shotgun, which was purchased legally.
Police are investigating the motive behind the shootings.
