A lifechanging act of kindness took place between two Long Islanders at Stony Brook University Hospital on Thursday, highlighting the transformative power of selflessness.

Anne-Marie Hassett, a chemistry teacher from Coram, generously donated her kidney to a stranger in need, Scott Scannell, from Nesconset.

The two met in person for the first time, marking a new chapter in their lives.

Until now, the only connection between them was a heartfelt letter from the donor to the recipient, delivered during his hospital stay.

News 12 had previously reported that Scannell was hoping for a Christmas miracle in the form a living kidney donor.
