Now that's convenient, right? I'll take that. Yeah, yeah, we've got a nice, uh, a nice, I'm already looking towards the weekend because we got gypped, we got. I mean just even just all the the memorial services, obviously unofficial start of summer which is all ruined by a lot of that rain until we got into, of course, later in the day on Monday which shaped up pretty nice, but yes, looking ahead every weekend now matters so much weather wise and we'll get into that in just a moment. But here's a look at our future cast overnight we have. Clouds clearing as we speak. We did have a couple of spot showers come through. There's a cold front kind of moving across Long Island off to the south and east as we go into early on Thursday. That'll take some of the clouds along with it. And so after around 56 in the morning, it's mostly clear to partly cloudy for a few hours. Temperatures will start off mostly in the lower to middle 60s in the morning, comfortable start and not as humid as it was on Wednesday. And figure most of the morning is mostly sunny to partly cloudy. The one thing we'll be watching is whether or not there will be a couple of. Showers and I think there can be a few isolated showers, especially over central and eastern Suffolk County during the late morning or early part of the afternoon. Nothing that's really going to slow you down much at all, but you might just want to have an umbrella with you throughout the day on Thursday for a few spotty, isolated kind of light rain showers around from time to time. But certainly a lot of the day is actually looking quite nice. So overnight clouds are clearing, becoming partly cloudy into the morning, lows in Glen Cove around 63, same in Huntington to around 61 for a low at Orient. 63 in Smithtown throughout the day Thursday, it's not necessarily as warm as parts of Long Islands got into the upper 70s and low 80s the past couple of days. Lower to middle 70s though will still feel quite nice with a mix of sun and clouds and a spot shower around it. Overall good conditions for the ocean and the sound in terms of boating weather, but use the sunscreen, that UV index pushing an 8 on Thursday, which is very high. Friday is looking great, but breezy. The weekend looks nice overall too, ahead of some scattered rain showers by next Monday and Tuesday.

Crescent moon pairs with Venus and Jupiter in evening sky next week

Maize, moon and planetary pairings continue, and this upcoming week is going to be a good one because we have two of the brightest objects in the evening sky coming together, and that's Venus and the moon. They're going to be very close in the lower portion of the western sky Monday night and then Tuesday night Jupiter's going to join in on the fun. Now the moon will be in crescent form, so it's not going to be the brightest moon, but a crescent moon in the evening sky is simply stunning. So Monday night, what you need to do is go out about an hour or so. After sunset and look towards the west low in the sky here because both objects, Venus and the moon are going to set after about 10:30 and they are near the constellation Gemini. Now Tuesday night is going to be extra special because we have Jupiter joining in on the fun and it's going to look like the moon is. Moving pretty quickly here it's going to be between Jupiter to the north and Venus to the south, all in the constellation Gemini, and you know what, we have some great weather for this. Temperatures are going to be warm, but for the very latest, be sure to check in on your local weather in the weather center. I'm storm watch team meteorologist Michelle Powers.

Celestial sights of May continue as moon pairs off with several planets

So far for the month of May we've had our first full moon, a meteor shower, and now we have some bright planet and moon pairings. We have two opportunities over the next two weeks to see them one in the early morning for the early risers and one during the evening for the night owls. So let's check out what's coming up this week. We have Mars, Saturn, and Moon. All be together in the morning sky and get closer over the series of about 3 days. Now we have the moon Venus conjunction happening the next week, followed by Jupiter joining in on the fun. So here's what you need to know. Starting on Tuesday, May 12th, if you are up before the sun rises, you're gonna want to look outside and. Towards the east, look for the moon. The moon will be in a crescent form over towards the left and down closer to the horizon, you'll be able to see Saturn and Mars. Now day by day you're going to see the moon move and by Thursday, the moon is going to appear between both Saturn and Mars. Now of course weather could get in the way, so if it's. By Friday you'll be able to see this in a slightly different position. The moon will actually be a little bit lower in the sky. Now all this is happening before the sun rises, so of course that eastern horizon is going to be very bright. Keep in mind this happens between 4 and about 5 a.m., so let me know what you see. We are all in this warm sector that very quickly warms up to June temperatures in the afternoon.

Record-breaking heat expected across the tri-state Wednesday

2 WED HEAT

Well, we could be looking at record breaking heat across the tri-state. Almost each and every city is expecting some heat, roughly 10 to 20 degrees greater than what we usually see this time of year. So nor could we break the record? Well, the forecast is 90 degrees and the record is 88 now on Long Island. Now those temperatures a little bit cooler than other cities across the tri-state just because we. Have that effect of our seas, but we're still looking at a potential record breaker. 80 degrees is the forecast high that record is 78 over in Westchester. Well, we're right, we're right near it. 86 is that forecast high that record that was set, um, 83, a long standing record, and we're talking in New York, Bronx, Brooklyn, really close. It all depends on how well those wind mix for tomorrow and Connecticut. This one could be a record breaker, could tie or may not reach it. We're gonna have to keep a close eye to that for tomorrow. We are all in this warm sector really inviting those southerly winds, really feeling like Atlanta and Tampa as we go into the midweek as we all have that heat in store. So our high temperatures all across the region well above normal. It's going to feel like June for your Wednesday.

Welcome back, spring! Everything you need to know about the upcoming vernal equinox

Spring is upon us. The season is about to change, and the official start is Friday, March 20th. Now, do you know the reason why we have seasons or why they change? It's all due to the Earth's axial tilt. We're tilted at 23.5 degrees. This is known as the vernal equinox, and it's the halfway point between the winter solstice, which. Was back in December and the summer solstice, which is coming up in June. So at this point in our orbit we are right in the middle and the sun is shining directly over the equator. We are neither tilted towards or away from the sun like we are in the solstices, and with the sun hitting the equator, both hemispheres are equally illuminated. So we're roughly seeing about 12 hours of daylight. And 12 hours of nighttime, so the word equinox comes from the Latin. It basically means equal night. So we are seeing 12 hours, roughly 12 hours, give or take. now this time of year we're also seeing faster sunrises and sunsets, and this is due to the sun setting and rising directly due east and due west. It's a very. Steep angle this time of year and it happens very quickly, just over 2 minutes now. The days are going to be getting longer and we're seeing a rapid increase in that daylight of about 2 to 3 minutes per day through the end of May, but the days will increase through the solstice.
