A meteorologist Rich Hoffman, you're hyper local weather forecast heading throughout the rest of our day. There's our sunshine. You'll notice some clouds at times, but take a look at that camera moving. That is the gusty wind out there. You see the trees moving just above Stewart Avenue, and we've had some wind gusts, you know, 37 MPH at Long Island MacArthur Airport. Gusty winds out here for today, but at least we do have the dry conditions around Nassau and Suffolk County. Our friends in Glen Cove, here we go, 5 o'clock, 56. So it is a mild afternoon, but we do have those gusty winds through this evening and then you will notice overnight clouds coming in. There will be a few isolated showers developing, especially into Suffolk County through your Wednesday morning. So this afternoon we are looking at the sunshine. We do have some high clouds that will come in towards sunset and right around 234 a.m. some light showers will develop into Suffolk County. We'll see a couple of showers come through by bus stop time in the morning. Around 7 to 8 o'clock, look at our temperatures in the 30s, so a bit of a chill starting off Wednesday morning. Then Wednesday afternoon clouds come back in. Temperatures top out upper 40s to low 50s, but notice some renegade nuisance pop-up showers on your Wednesday afternoon and an overnight Wednesday into Thursday morning drying out. Thursday morning will be cold. Some temperatures around the Pine Barrens will be in the upper 20s, otherwise it's lower 30s, so colder weather. Thursday morning, but the sunshine does return. Now with the nice weather, we do have tree pollen on the high side, you may need some medicine to get you through allergy season. Then going into the weekend, we are watching an increasing threat of rain Sunday into Monday. Highs today are in the 50s with that sunshine. We do have gusty winds tonight. The threat of some showers towards morning, lows are in the 30s. Here's that extended forecast watching some unsettled weather conditions for your weekend with highs in the 50s.

April weather outlook: Will we trend typical or warmer?

Welcome to spring, everyone. I'm storm watch team meteorologist Hilda Estevez with your outlook on the month of April. Now we are anticipating moving into the spring season in the right direction, a bit more of that seasonal temperature trend is what we've been experiencing, but actually into the month of April we are going to be trending warmer than normal. How much warmer? Well, definitely into the seasonal aspect and above that threshold. Our typical highs is between 40 degrees as well as the 50s and into 60s, 62 being our normal typical high temperature for the daytime. Now we are anticipating a warmer trend across eastern portions of the tri-state and just a touch cooler but still relatively warm in the Garden State. Now what about our precipitation trend? Well, for us it's also with equal chances for. Wet and dry days into the month. Now we typically also assume close to and above 4 inches of rainfall. Now how could this impact our drought monitor across the same region? Well, not in the best way. Yes, some rain of any kind would help, and thankfully we're not trending drier. That would definitely exhaust the drought monitor more, especially across southern portions of New Jersey, but I think faring a little wet would definitely be to our benefit.

Well, the rain's coming down this morning. Also those strong winds. We are keeping an eye on the roads for any potential flooding across the island and of course that commute you're experiencing right now. Our Jen Selig is out there getting a look at those conditions. Jen, what are you seeing? Well Erin, we have been on Sunrise Highway throughout the morning just jumping over from town to town, starting off in Massapequa Park, where that's where the rain was coming down pretty heavy. Now in KOEG it has lightened up a little bit, but I'm sure that's going to change soon because that that's how that was what the pattern was. this morning we were speaking with some people out here. No one happy to be outside, but they have to go to work. So again, it's just important to give yourself some extra time. Take it easy out on the roads. They are wet also the sidewalks too, and we're noticing as the morning is, as we're getting more into the morning hours where cars are coming out on the roads, the traffic is now starting to build up on sunrise. Pretty bad, but yeah, you know, we have to go to work. What would you advise drivers heading out this morning to be safe, to try to drive nicely. So again, it has been raining all morning long. The main concern is the rain. The wind has definitely died down, not as bad as it was last night where you could probably hear it from inside of your house. The temperature is not too bad either. So again, just be careful out on the roads. Make sure to have those windshield wipers on when you are driving out here. We're going to send it back to you guys for now in the studio. Long Island braces for heavy rain and wind overnight

Heavy rain and wind are expected tonight and into tomorrow morning with the potential for slick roads and even power outages. Newswell's Logan Crawford is in Roosevelt right now with what town officials are doing to prepare for this storm, and Logan, it's going to be a bumpy night for everybody. Right, crews here at the Hempstead Town Highway Department are getting ready for the rain and wind. They're clearing out drains, cutting down weak tree limbs to mitigate potential problems during the storm. To highway crews chop down weak tree limbs and clear out stuffed storm drains. Some people are getting their errands done early ahead of the rainstorm. That's where I'm at now before it gets dark and before it really starts to pour. Officials say be prepared for hazardous road conditions tonight and tomorrow morning during the heavy rain. Tomorrow morning is going to be brutal getting the kids or getting yourself to work. I'm going to just tell residents, take your time, take it easy, don't rush, but most importantly, be safe. To supervisor Don Klavan says highway department workers are cutting off weak tree limbs so high winds don't blow them down and take out power lines, and they're raking out black storm drains so rainwater doesn't flood roads. Spokespeople for the towns of Oyster Bay and Huntington say their road crews are doing their prep work too ahead of the storm. Some say they'll hunker down and wait for the storm to pass. Stay home tomorrow is St. Patrick's Day and uh stay with the family, have fun. And the Hempstead town supervisor recommends staying off the road tonight during the rain and give yourself extra time for the morning commute in Roosevelt, Nassau County, Logan Crawford, News 12.
