A donation drive in Oceanside Sunday morning helped nearly 200 people who were displaced by a fire at an apartment building in Baldwin.
People dropped off dozens of bags and boxes of clothing and food at the Oceanside VFW.
Community groups that organized the drive include the Oceanside Community Warriors, the Baldwin Lion's Club and Oceanside Moms.
“Clothing, food, gift cards – things like that…We’re only here for a few minutes and we already have a couple carloads of stuff here," said Brian Driscoll, with the Oceanside Community Warriors.
As many as 200 people were displaced following the fire at the building on Merrick Road. Fire officials say everyone inside got out of the building safely, but police say the Baldwin was condemned.
