Nassau DA names 104 accused johns

Nassau County District Attorney Kathleen Rice has released the names of more than 100 johns accused of soliciting prostitutes.

Authorities say the johns include engineers, doctors and lawyers. They range in age from 17 to 79.

The district attorney's office says 104 men have been arrested since April. They are accused of using backpage.com to meet up with women who they thought were prostitutes. Police say the johns met up with undercover officers and agreed to pay for sex.

Rice says the sting will help clean up Long Island's sex trade.

The defendants have all been arraigned and have pleaded not guilty to patronizing a prostitute in the third degree. Each defendant faces up to one year in jail, if convicted.

News 12's three-part series, "Tracking the Sex Trade," took an in-depth look at the hidden escapades of this dangerous lifestyle. Cameras tagged along and learned of the men who seek out women and sex in exchange for cash.
