A local hero was honored Friday as he celebrated a milestone birthday.

The Town of Lynbrook honored World War II veteran James Keegan for turning 100 with a police parade passing his home on Newton Avenue.

Keegan said seeing all of the surprises meant a lot to him.

"I feel humbled right now. I don't really feel like I deserve all this attention, but I'll receive it. I'm so appreciative of everyone who made this day special for me," he said.

The town mayor also gave Keegan a plaque to mark the special occasion.
