Members of the Nassau County Police Emerald Society Pipe Band are headed to Scotland for the trip of a lifetime.

It’s the 50th anniversary of the band, and 17 members are celebrating the five decades of music by playing at the World Pipe Band Championships in Glasgow.

It’s a first for the band.

NCPD Detective Terry Quinn is the pipe major.

He equated the trip to “a pipe dream that’s becoming a reality.”

The band is not competing because it only recently began competing after not having done so in 20 years. Instead, the band will be featured in a special performance. They're slated to play on Aug. 17.
