A wave of vandalism has left residents in Deer Park and surrounding neighborhoods shaken, after at least 10 vehicles were damaged this week.
According to the Suffolk County Police Department, the acts of vandalism began on Wednesday and have impacted cars across six different streets in Deer Park, as well as a block in both Dix Hills and Wheatley Heights. Authorities say the damage includes slashed tires, broken windows and smashed side mirrors.
News 12 visited several of the affected neighborhoods Friday, where damaged vehicles were still parked along residential streets.
One of the hardest-hit residents, Darryl Morse, of Wheatley Heights, said three of his family’s cars were vandalized outside their home.
“I feel violated, just very upset,” Morse said. “Now I’m so uneasy. For the last couple of days I’ve been looking out in the middle of the night. Seems like they’ve been targeting the whole neighborhood. Hopefully the cops will be pretty good in catching these guys.”
Morse, who has lived in the area for more than 20 years, said he has never seen anything like this before.
Authorities are asking anyone with information to come forward.
