Police say a Westhampton Beach woman stole from a Quogue business before she got into a struggle with the owner.

It happened Wednesday at a shop on Jessup Avenue.

Detectives say 43-year-old Maria Gutierrez Monterrey first stole from the store owner's purse, then took money out of the cash register.

That's when owner Theresa Summer says she confronted Gutierrez Monterrey.

"There was an altercation. I was hit very badly. I was rolling around in the back of my store really frightened," Summer recalled.

Summer said she tackled Gutierrez Monterrey who then ran away.

Police say she was found nearby with some of Summer's credit cards.

Gutierrez Monterrey will be arraigned on Monday.
