A state lawmaker has proposed a new bill that would require a special election to fill a town supervisor vacancy.
The measure comes amid claims by the Nassau Democratic Committee that Town of Hempstead Supervisor Don Clavin is planning to resign.
They say the town board plans on appointing Legislator John Ferretti as interim supervisor without a public vote.
"We want this practice to stop and we believe that the electorate deserves to elect who they want to represent them," said Assemblymember Judy Griffin, of Rockville Centre.
News 12 reached out to the Town of Hempstead for comment but had not heard back as of Friday night.
