West Shore Road was reopened ahead of schedule in Mill Neck today.

Crews repaired Sandy-related damages that affected the two-mile stretch of roadway. The project was completed three weeks ahead of schedule.

The road is only one of two ways in and out of the community, and residents say the road was in such deterioration it was a matter of time before it had to be rebuilt.

Drivers had been forced to take a 10-mile detour through Mill Neck and Lattingtown to get in and out of the community. This also forced many to bypass small businesses in the area.

Officials say there will be sporadic one-lane closures for cleanup work and striping. Both lanes along Oyster Bay Harbor are now officially reopened.
