Bicyclists and skateboarders took to the streets of Oceanside Sunday in honor of Khaseen Morris, the 16-year-old who was stabbed to death earlier this month in an after-school fight.
According to his sister Kedeemah, Khaseen “rode his skateboard everywhere.”
“I know right now, if he could see all of this, he would be so happy, leading everyone," she told News 12.
The teen’s loved ones organized the ride and brought along his skateboard. It began at the funeral home where Khaseen Morris’ services were held and ended at the shopping plaza on Brower Avenue where he was killed.
It’s been nearly two weeks since the brawl at a strip mall near Oceanside High School where the teen was fatally stabbed. Police say the fight likely started because the victim was seen with the ex-girlfriend of one of the 16-year-old suspects.
Tyler Flach, 18, of Lido Beach, was arraigned on second-degree murder charges in the case. Police say he's the teen who plunged the knife into Morris. Seven others have since been arrested on gang assault charges.
Kedeemah Morris says the ride was an effort to “get rid of that sadness and remind everyone that Oceanside is still a happy town.”
“We can still make something good out of something bad,” she says.
At the end of the ride, bikers and boarders lit candles at a makeshift memorial.
