A dead whale washed up near Ditch Plains in Montauk.

A spokesman for the Atlantic Marine Conservation Society said a fisherman or boater called in Thursday about seeing the dead whale seven miles off the coast. It has now been washed up in a rocky area near Ditch Plains.

The whale is believed to be a female humpback and has been severely scavenged, according to the AMCS who is working with the Town of East Hampton on a plan to remove the animal.
