A former Suffolk County corrections officer has pleaded guilty to sexually assaulting an inmate.

The Suffolk County District Attorney’s Office says Jason Middleton was on duty at the Riverhead Correctional Facility when he forced an inmate to perform sex acts between June and August of 2023.

The assault took place at a utility walkway between cells that he “knew to be a blind spot in security camera coverage,” according to a press release.

The release also states that he previously threatened to plant contraband in the victim’s cell if they disobeyed him.

Officials say Middleton was suspended without pay since his arrest in November 2023 and is no longer a county employee.

He faces 18 months in jail and will have to register as a sex offender.
