A 22-year-old man from Shirley was arrested Friday night after police say he sped off instead of stopping when officers tried to pull him over.

According to Southampton Town Police, officers attempted to stop Camari Isaiah Ziegler for a traffic violation, but he allegedly accelerated and fled.

Police say Ziegler drove recklessly while trying to evade officers and eventually came to a stop after leaving the road and crashing into a fence.

Ziegler has been charged with reckless driving, unlawfully fleeing a police officer, and multiple vehicle and traffic law violations.

He was later released on an appearance ticket.
