Newsday is putting out its third "retro" paper this weekend, and this edition focuses on the debate over the nuclear power plant in Shoreham.

Suffolk County Legislator Greg Blass was one of the leaders in the fight against a planned nuclear power plant in Shoreham – a project that had the support of the nation's big power companies.

Even though the plant's construction was finished, tremendous local opposition prevented it from ever opening.

"…When a community is committed to doing something to make things right, they're bound to win," says Blass. 

The Newsday edition set for this Sunday is from June 4, 1979, which was a day after a protest garnered 15,000 people outside the plant. It's free for Newsday subscribers, but it won't be available in stores.

Newsday officials say the idea for retro releases has received great feedback from readers.

"If you look at some of the content in there, some of that is still relevant today," says Edward Bushey, Newsday's co-publisher.
