Police say 55-year-old Paul Porrini, of Selden, ran a red light and crashed into a motorcycle and three other cars yesterday.

The motorcyclist, 44-year-old Christopher White, of Medford, was pronounced dead at Southside Hospital in Bay Shore.

White was a member of Boots on the Ground and had just finished escorting World War II veterans who were flying from MacArthur Airport to Washington, D.C.

Other people suffered injuries in the crash that are not considered life-threatening, police say.

Porrini is charged with driving while ability impaired by drugs. Prosecutors say he will likely face an upgraded charge of vehicular manslaughter or vehicular homicide in the crash.

Porrini is due back in court on Oct. 4.
