Nassau County Executive Tom Suozzi called together a summit Tuesday to come up with solutions for the county?s growing heroin problem.
There has been a dramatic increase in heroin arrests and deaths in Nassau in recent years. Officials say it?s because heroin is increasingly easy to get and is becoming cheaper.
The summit also focused on prescription drugs, which they say often serves as a gateway to harder drugs like heroin, especially in teens.
Nassau officials are also planning a no-questions-asked drug drop off program to make sure such illegal drugs and prescription drugs are kept out of kids? hands.
