The mother of former Sen. Alfonse D'Amato has died.
Antoinette "Mama" D'Amato passed away last night at the age of 99.
A member of the Greatest Generation, Mama D'Amato was a "Rosie the Riveter" during World War II, fabricating aircraft parts. She gained national notoriety during her campaign commercials and stops when her son first ran for the U.S. Senate.
The D'Amato family says she died peacefully at her home in Island Park.
