Wakes were held Monday for members of a Garden City family allegedly killed in a murder-suicide.

Police say William Parente killed his wife Betty and two daughters Stephanie and Catherine in a hotel outside Baltimore last week before killing himself. Shortly after the bodies were discovered it came out the FBI is probing alleged financial improprieties involving William Parente. An investigation into a motive is under way.

Friends, relatives, classmates and community members shared tears and stories Monday at the Park Funeral Chapel. Family members say they're too overwhelmed and upset to speak to News 12 Long Island on camera, but say in a statement that words can?t express what they're feeling and they just want thank the friends and members of the community who've come by to pay their respects.

"[Betty] was a beautiful person and she gave a lot to the community and I think everyone needs to give back to her,? says friend Tara Minion.

A funeral Mass for the mother and daughters will be held Tuesday. They will be buried at St. Charles Cemetery in Farmingdale. A funeral home employee says a separate private service was held for William Parente.
