The Nassau and Suffolk health departments say now that they have the first doses of the swine flu vaccine, they?re making sure the most vulnerable residents get it.
Each county health department got 1,000 doses of the nasal mist vaccine. Nassau says it will give the vaccine to a dozen hospitals, including NUMC and its four pediatric clinics. From there, distribution will be up to the hospitals.
Suffolk's doses have already gone out to the county's 10 health centers and to the federal Shots for Tots program.
The North Shore-LIJ Health System also got 1,000 doses. Doctors there say they?ll develop a distribution plan once they know how many doses they?ll get in total.
State officials say another shipment is expected next month.
