Two of Long Island?s Republican state senators are pushing a plan to help reduce future tuition costs at city and state schools by having parents start paying now.
State senators Kenneth LaValle (R-Port Jefferson) and Dean Skelos (R-Rockville Centre) say by paying current prices for tuition that would be paid later, parents will save money in the long run and help the schools in the short run.
Many Long Islanders say it?s a good idea for those who can afford it.
LaValle says paying SUNY or CUNY tuition early would not guarantee a student?s admission and that the money would be refundable if the student ends up not going to that school.
