Doctors make appeal to save Glen Cove Hospital's inpatient care

Doctors gathered at a closed door meeting inside Glen Cove Mansion on Thursday to discuss the future of their hospital.

North Shore-LIJ is standing by its plan to end inpatient care at Glen Cove Hospital by the end of the year and convert the hospital into an ambulatory facility. News 12 has learned that some doctors are considering ending their affiliation with the hospital if the plans come to fruition.

Glen Cove Mayor Ralph Suozzi is calling on North Shore-LIJ to halt its plans until a discussion can be had between hospital officials, local elected leaders and state health officials. Suozzi says he wants a full functioning hospital.

Meanwhile, a petition is being circulated locally and online urging North Shore-LIJ to continue inpatient care at Glen Cove Hospital.

North Shore-LIJ sent an email to nearly 700 physicians on Thursday reiterating the company's plan for the future, but also stated that the administration looks forward to working with doctors to minimize the impact of the changes.
