Authorities say a Woodmere woman poured lighter fluid on her estranged husband's 5-month-old and in his home in a bid to burn him and his family to death.
Esther Hershko, 49, is charged with attempted murder, burglary, arson and possession of a dangerous weapon. Her estranged husband Itzhak, his girlfriend, the infant, Hershko's adult son and a cousin were inside the Mineola home she allegedly tried to burn down Wednesday.
Nobody was injured.
Hershko was arraigned Thursday. She appeared in court wearing a hospital gown. Her Legal Aid attorney claims she is suffering from cancer.
Authorities say Esther and Itzhak Hershko have been separated for four years, and in that time, they've responded to a number of domestic calls involving the two.
Itzhak Hershko is thankful his young daughter is alive and OK.
"We are doing very good," he says. "Thank God nobody got hurt."
