A cat is safe after being rescued from the Long Island Rail Road tracks in Suffolk County.
MTA officials say a passing train engineer first saw the feline between the Lindenhurst and Babylon stations along the Babylon branch.
The engineer contacted local cat rescue expert John DeBacker for assistance, who then notified MTA police.
Officers responded to the scene around 7 p.m. on Sunday, where they observed a cream or orange tabby cowering between the rails.
The LIRR assisted by briefly removing power to allow officers to safely approach and remove the animal.
The cat, now known as 'Garfield’, appearing scared but uninjured, was safely removed and taken to South Shore Feral Care in West Babylon.
There was no reported service interruption as a result of the rescue operation, according to the MTA.
