Boating enthusiasts are speeding toward the South Shore this weekend for the "Great Race on the Sea."

The event, which used to be called "Battle on the Bay," was once run on the Great South Bay near Patchogue. However, after a double fatality in 2008, the race was canceled. To boot, organizers struggled to obtain the necessary permits from Suffolk County, resulting in the event moving west into Nassau.

The race will take place in the Atlantic Ocean south of Long Beach. Festivities leading up to the race will be held along the Nautical Mile in Freeport.

Local business owners say they're looking forward to the race and the extra revenue they'll take in before the end of summer.
