It was around 4:45 a.m. Sunday when state police say there were more than 10 calls about the wrong-way driver.

Police say Giovannie Merisier, of West Babylon, was arrested after sideswiping a car near Exit 20. The people in that car were treated for minor injuries. State police said Merisier had a passenger in her car who was OK.

Cpt. Vincent Augeri with Troop L told News 12 that it was a “miracle” that nobody was killed.

“Only by the grace of God nobody was seriously injured or worse, as we’ve seen many times in the past,” he said.

Merisier is due in court on Feb. 17. She is charged with driving while intoxicated and reckless endangerment.
