A fiery car crash left one man dead Friday afternoon in Nissequogue, according to Suffolk police.

Authorities say the man was leaving the driveway of a house on Pheasant Run when the vehicle went off path and down a rear-yard embankment around 3:40 p.m.

The car erupted in flames after coming to a stop. The driver exited and immediately collapsed.

Police say he was pronounced dead at the scene. As of Saturday morning, he has yet to be identified.

Authorities are working to determine if the fire was caused by an object striking the vehicle’s undercarriage.

Anyone with additional information is urged to call 631-854-8452.
