Six people were hospitalized after a heat suppression system went off at a Medford gas station on Friday.

Suffolk police say heat sensors from the gas pumps activated around 9:30 a.m. at the Mobil on Route 112, triggering white powder to cool the equipment.

The powder fell onto cars and nearby customers. The six hospitalized individuals were treated for troubled breathing and eye irritation.
