Police: Man, dog killed in Amityville crash

Police say 52-year-old Roy Mathes was hit while walking his dog at the intersection of Louden Avenue and Broadway at around 6:30 a.m.

A man and his dog were killed early Wednesday when they were struck by a car in Amityville, police say.

They say 52-year-old Roy Mathes was hit while walking his dog at the intersection of Louden Avenue and Broadway at around 6:30 a.m.

Police say Mathes was taken to the hospital where he died, and that the dog died at the scene.

The driver of the vehicle was not hurt.
