A volunteer Nutley Fire Department official is under investigation after being accused of trying to meet someone he thought was a minor for a sexual encounter.
News 12 New Jersey is not identifying the official because no charges have been filed. The Nutley Police Department confirms that they are investigating the allegations against the volunteer fire chief.
The situation first came to light due to the actions of the OBL Nation YouTube channel – a group that poses as minors online to expose alleged child predators.
“He messaged one of my decoys posing as a 14-year-old boy,” says the YouTuber, known as Ramy.
The YouTubers confronted the official as the video streamed live on Tuesday night. The man first denied the allegations but then admits that he showed up to have sexual relations with someone he met online – someone he thought was 14 years old.
“Right there and then, he was not only was he cooperative...but he confessed. He confessed to everything,” Ramy says. “It broke my heart because I look up to firefighters.”
News 12 has reached out to Nutley officials for comment but has not heard back.
The Essex County Prosecutor’s Office confirms they are investigating and that no charges have been filed at this time.
