A West Babylon empanada shop is offering adults with autism an opportunity to get hands-on training in the kitchen.
Nelly's Artisan Argentinian Empanadas is special to the store's owner because she loves to cook and now is inspired to take that love and give adults with autism an opportunity to work.
"Adults with autism - they show up to work every day, they're not late, they always have a positive and great attitude, they do the best they can," says Nelly Mourelle.
Those who work at the empanada spot get to cook and do inventory.
Jake DeNicola, 25, of Baldwin says he loves it and his favorite part is the food
"You have no idea the way they light up when they are doing something they love," Mourelle says.
