Surveillance video may have recorded a thief who broke into cars in Brentwood.
It happened around 4 a.m. on Sherman Street. Michele Molina says she was up early leaving for work when she saw her neighbor’s car window shattered. That spurred her to check her own home security video.
The video shows someone walk up to the car in her driveway and peer inside using a flashlight. He then walks away.
Suffolk police say two cars were broken into with their windows smashed. Both cars had purses visible to the thief.
Police tell News 12 Long Island that car break-ins are up across the state. It’s believed many suspects were fueled by the opioid epidemic.
