A U.S. Navy ship will be named after a Connecticut Medal of Honor recipient.

The "USS Harvey C. Barnum Jr." is set to be commissioned in April.

The warship honors U.S. Marine Corps Colonel Harvey Curtiss "Barney" Barnum Jr.

The Cheshire native served in the Vietnam War and earned the Medal of Honor for assuming the command of his company when his commander was killed.

A commissioning ceremony will be held April 11 in Norfolk, Virginia.

Barnum's wife, Martha Hill, has been named the ship's sponsor.
