After being finalized 57 days late, New York's $268 billion state budget includes several measures aimed at putting money back into the pockets of New York residents.

One of the most immediate benefits comes through a utility bill relief program. The state will send one-time rebate checks to eligible residents to help offset high energy costs.

Under the program:

  • Single filers earning less than $150,000 will receive a $100 rebate.

  • Joint filers earning less than $150,000 will receive $200.

  • Joint filers with incomes between $150,000 and $300,000 will receive $150.

Families with children may also see significant savings through an expanded Child and Dependent Care Credit, which helps cover expenses such as daycare.

Depending on income and eligibility requirements, families could receive:

  • Up to $3,000 for one child.

  • Up to $6,000 for two children.

  • Up to $9,000 for families with five or more children.

The budget also includes a tax break for service industry workers. Tips of up to $25,000 will be exempt from state income tax, allowing workers to keep more of their earnings.

The budget will also not raise New York's state income tax rates, providing taxpayers with another measure of financial relief.
