Suffolk police have arrested a woman for operating a brothel in Islip Terrace.
Police say that they conducted an investigation into the brothel located at 204 Cedarwood St. after complaints were received from the community. Detectives found online ads and message boards indicating Helen Mantell, 67, had been operating the brothel since at least 2012 under the name of Phyllis.
Mantell is charged with prostitution and issued a desk appearance ticket, according to police. She will be arraigned at the First District Court in Central Islip at a later date.
Police say the investigation is ongoing and at this time there is no evidence of human trafficking.
