Housing activists from ACORN protested outside a Uniondale company they say scammed struggling homeowners.

AmeriMod is a loan modification company paid by customers to negotiate lower mortgages. The company is the subject of a $100 million class action lawsuit from homeowners who claim they paid thousands without getting help.

Company officials deny any wrongdoing. AmeriMod claims it gets modification for 90 percent of its customers and those who can't be helped are given refunds.
