“Like a phoenix rising from the ashes, this Tesla laboratory will rise as well,” vowed Brookhaven Town Councilwoman Jane Bonner as she joined other officials outside the Tesla Science Center at Wardenclyffe in Shoreham on Tuesday.
A fire ravaged the historic site on Nov. 21. Renovation plans had been underway before the fire and the plan is to still to go forward. But now, due to the fire, more money is needed. The goal is to turn the lab into a museum honoring Nikola Tesla, the renowned innovator and inventor.
Marc Alessi, executive director of the Tesla Science Center, said, “In terms of hitting our fundraising goals, failure’s not an option for us.”
They’re seeking $3 million to repair the damages.
Dozens of firefighters worked to put out the blaze. One was injured in the process. Officials have ruled out arson, but a cause has not yet been determined.
“I said when I saw what had happened that night that I had hope, and I still do, and I hope that we can continue with resiliency as Tesla did,” said board member Jane Alcorn.
