(AP) -- A member of the Illinois Army National Guard and another suburban Chicago man have been arrested on charges of conspiring to provide material support to the Islamic State group in Syria and Iraq.
The U.S. Attorney's office in Chicago said in a statement Thursday that 22-year-old Hasan Edmonds and 29-year-old Jonas Edmonds, both of Aurora, were arrested Wednesday night.
It says Hasan Edmonds was arrested at Chicago Midway International Airport trying to board a flight to Egypt. The other suspect was arrested at his Aurora home. It's unclear if they are related.
The complaint says the men planned an attack on a U.S. military facility in northern Illinois.
They are scheduled to make an initial appearance in U.S. District Court in Chicago later Thursday. Names of defense attorneys weren't available.
