Lifeguards and first responders were hailed as heroes on Tuesday after saving a 4-year-old from drowning at the Syosset-Woodbury Community Park pool earlier this month.
On Aug. 13, Vincent Zhang was swimming in the pool with his friends when he went under water and didn't come back up. Lifeguards saw what happened, pulled him out of the pool and saw he wasn't breathing.
They performed CPR and eventually Vincent coughed up water. The boy went to Huntington Hospital and was released that night.
"[Vincent] is here alive and well because of the actions of our heroes, our lifeguards and our emergency responders,” says Town Supervisor Joseph Saladino.
He and his parents came back to the pool Tuesday to thank those responsible for saving his life.
His mother Angela Wang says her family is “so lucky” and thanked the “great lifeguards.” She says Vincent is looking forward to getting back into the water.
