Six departments battle house fire in Freeport

Freeport fire officials say they received a report about the blaze on the first floor of the Lena Avenue residence around 7:55 p.m. Friday.

Six fire departments worked to extinguish a large house fire that erupted Friday night in Freeport.

Freeport fire officials say they received a report about the blaze on the first floor of the Lena Avenue residence around 7:55 p.m.

Around 50 firefighters responded to the scene and controlled the flames within 25 minutes.

Authorities say the occupants were able to self-evacuate. No injuries were reported.

The building has since been deemed uninhabitable. The number of residents displaced is currently unknown.

The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
