The Port Jefferson School District says its appeal to combine varsity football programs with Rocky Point has been denied by Section XI.
The superintendent says the district is now waiting for a written decision outlining the reason the proposal was denied.
The presentation was made arguing a merger that would not penalize postseason play for Rocky Point. The combined program would have kept Rocky Point as the host district and would not have changed its schedule.
The Board of Education and legal counsel are now discussing next steps.
