A former NYPD officer from Valley Stream has been indicted in connection to an alleged hit-and-run collision with a pedestrian.
Prosecutors say Jatinderpal Singh was off-duty when he hit a 22-year-old woman crossing the street in Queens in March. They say instead of rendering aid to the woman, he fled the scene and tried to cover it up by ordering passengers in the car to lie to police.
He was indicted on conspiracy, assault, tampering with physical evidence and numerous other charges.
Prosecutors say Singh was driving a friend's black Cadillac at a high rate of speed when he hit the woman.
Instead of reporting the incident to an NYPD official as is standard protocol, he allegedly told a passenger to delete any pictures or videos from his phone showing him driving.
The unconscious woman was taken to a local hospital. Officials say she suffered severe injuries to her head and torso and had to have her spleen removed and metal rods inserted in her leg.
Singh resigned from the NYPD in May.
He faces up to seven year in prison if convicted.
