The Suffolk County executive delivered his State of the County address on Thursday.
Ed Romaine says that the county is financially stable, and he is pledging to hold the line on taxes.
“I will not be raising general fund taxes in the 2027 budget. There will be zero increase,” he said.
Romaine also touted a drop in crime and said the county will only work with Immigration and Customs Enforcement when they have a judicial warrant – not just a detainer.
He also called on the state to help fund the construction of new sewers and pledged to rebuild the storm-damaged dam at Stump Pond.
Democratic Legislator Jason Richberg delivered a response to Romaine’s speech.
The minority leader stressed the need for both sides to come together to make Long Island a more affordable place to live – including a cap on the county portion of gas prices.
"Capping the taxable price of gasoline to $3.31 per gallon is one practical step to take to take to try and put some money back into the pockets of Suffolk County residents because every dollar matters to families trying to make ends meet,” Richberg said.
Romaine also spoke about a potential gas tax holiday.
