The students in Melissa McMullen's class at JFK Middle School in Port Jefferson Station have been developing a special connection with more than 40 children in Haiti by raising funds to send supplies to the earthquake-ravaged nation.
The students use Skype to communicate with their counterparts in Haiti and have sewn backpacks for the Haitian students and made teddy bears for a fundraiser.
Their teacher, McMullen, has traveled down to Haiti with Wings Over Haiti founder Jonathon Glynn to deliver the backpacks and necessities.
McMullen is traveling down again with the program to deliver more supplies and News 12 Long Island's Danielle Campbell is traveling with her and will have more on the story next week.
