Police say three people have been arrested for robbing a Stewart Manor gas station armed with a knife, and they have been linked to another robbery.
The suspects were identifed as 32-year-old Jason Kroll, of Shirley; 27-year-old Heather McCormack, of Mastic; and 26-year-old Christopher Giardiello, of Mattituck.
Surveillance cameras were rolling as police say they pulled into the Express gas station on Tulip Avenue in a Jeep Cherokee Friday evening and asked the male attendant for assistance. As the attendant spoke to Kroll, police say Giardiello entered the store and stole cash from the register.
Police say the attendant confronted Giardiello as he exited the store holding the cash and a knife, and a struggle ensued. Kroll allegedly grabbed the attendant from behind and began to choke him, while Giardiello and McCormack fled with the cash.
Another gas station employee went to help his co-worker, and was able to detain Kroll until police arrived.
Police say they located McCormack and Giardiello at Meacham Avenue in Elmont, and they were taken into custody.
Giardiello, McCormack and Kroll are charged with first-degree robbery and two counts of fourth-degree grand larceny. Giardiello is being charged with possession of a dangerous weapon, and Kroll is also charged with obstruction of breathing for allegedly choking the attendant.
Detectives say an investigation revealed that the three suspects were also involved in a larceny at the OK gas station on New Hyde Park Road in Franklin Square on March 26.
The gas station attendant was not seriously hurt. He says even though he's invested thousands of dollars in camera surveillance equipment, he's been robbed twice in the last three months.
