Police investigate possible hit-and-run in Southampton

Southampton police are investigating a possible hit-and-run in Hampton Bays.
Police say that around 4:20 a.m. they received a call for a man lying in the roadway unconscious and bleeding on North Road across from the eastbound entrance ramp of Sunrise Highway. The roadway was closed for 4 hours to allow police to investigate.
The man was treated on the scene and transported by helicopter to Stony Brook University Hospital. Police say that a preliminary investigation indicates that he was struck by a vehicle that left the scene.
