A Farmingdale High School soccer player is turning heartbreak into inspiration after delivering the biggest goal of his high school career.
Just one day after losing his father to liver cancer, Adam Vitulano scored the game-winning goal in overtime last week, sending the Dalers to the county finals.
For Vitulano, the goal represented much more than a victory.
"He loved watching me so much on the field. I think that was the driving force. I had to play for him that day so I went with my gut and play my heart out," Vitulano said.
Now, Vitulano and the Dalers are one win away from a county championship.
Farmingdale will take on the Oceanside Sailors this afternoon at Farmingdale State College, with Vitulano continuing to play in honor of his father's memory.
