Safety is the top priority for law enforcement this Halloween.
Officials say Halloween night can be very busy with increased calls, with the biggest concern being traffic safety. Drivers are urged to slow down and keep an eye out for kids running into the street.
"If your kids are going out on the street, they love the dog costumes, but the dog costume is in a park, right? Could be a tragedy," said Patchogue Mayor Paul Pontieri. "We'll have six or eight guys in vehicles taking a look, making sure that everything is safe. It's a difficult night sometimes."
The Village of Bayville put a Halloween curfew in place to help protect residents. They also reminded parents to check their kids' candy to make sure it is safe and packaged properly.
