Multiple Halloween weekend house parties involving underage drinking were broken up in Nassau County, according to police.
In Long Beach, a city spokesperson said police dispersed a party involving around 250 young people on East Park Avenue Friday night. Authorities sent the attendees home, and a couple of young people were issued summonses for underage drinking.
Police also issued summonses to the parents of the household for a social host violation. That violation occurs when an adult homeowner knowingly allows someone under the age of 21 to consume alcohol.
Police reported a similar situation on Fairfield Avenue in Mineola.
Police arrested a 53-year-old man after officers received a complaint about a loud party at his home. According to police, officers found a large group of people at the residence, many of them under 21 years old, along with empty and open alcohol containers.
Police allege the homeowner, Thomas Quinn, supplied the alcohol and did nothing to stop the underage drinking.
Neighbors said they saw police arrive at the scene.
"I'd say there was probably 30, maybe 50 kids on the street…. Halloween party, weekend, beautiful night. And next thing you know, I think the party was kind of closed and everybody was standing on the street, and Nassau County police showed up, and the kids just dispersed. No violence, no vandalism," said Tom Oswald of Mineola.
Quinn is charged with violating the social host law, endangering the welfare of a child, and unlawful dealing with a minor.
